Church House
Scotland / Johnshaven, Aberdeenshire
Full description
A stylish and light-filled celestial apartment, with spectacular views over the rooftops and out towards the sweeping Scottish coast.
Complete with soaring ceilings and huge, light-attracting windows, you'll discover Church House in the charming Scottish fishing village of Johnshaven, on the sweeping coastal plains of the Mearns.
Spaciously set over two floors, and sleeping up to three guests, the heavenly retreat is housed in an elegant 200-year-old church.
Yet you'll find it drenched with contemporary style, and boasting expert interior design - with vast natural light provided by the apartment's gleaming centrepiece: a jaw-dropping floor-to-ceiling church window.
Relax and unwind in the bright, open plan living space, furnished with comfy seating, a sofa bed, and a Netflix-equipped Smart TV for when you're all talked out! Feeling hungry? You can whip up many a congregational feast in the glossy kitchen, which is packed with high-end appliances, and a breakfast bar with comfy seating.
When it's time to turn in, simply head upstairs to the gorgeous, glass-fronted mezzanine bedroom, with plenty of character provided by the church's original exposed beams...
...and plenty of comfort provided not only by the cosy double bed, but a sumptuous chaise longue. Adorned with cushions and positioned directly beneath a window, it's the perfect spot for daydreaming.
Choose from a first-floor bathroom and an en-suite shower room to freshen up in, and then it's on to exploring the local area. Though with so many diverse options starting right from the church door, choosing what to do first could prove tough!
Golfers are certainly in luck, as the church is surrounded by some of the world's most famous courses, including those at Carnoustie and St. Andrews, which is otherwise known as the ‘home of golf' (translation: don't forget to pack your clubs). You'll also be able to visit some of Scotland's most breathtaking and historic castles, including Brechin and Dunnottar.
Keen walker? Then you'll love the fact that Church House is beautifully positioned at the gateway of the Cairngorms National Park, while that beautiful coastline is a mere 400 yards away.
Meanwhile, there's an intriguing abundance of heritage-steeped towns and villages to visit, including Montrose, Arbroath, and Stonehaven. Though if you're hankering after the bright lights of the city (and a mammoth shopping spree!), then bustling Aberdeen is a mere 30 minutes away by car.
But with a pub in walking distance, it's absolutely fine if all you feel like doing is chatting with the locals over a well-deserved tipple, then heading back to the sanctuary of Church House for a divine evening in.
