Chalybeate Yurt

A romantic, lovingly hand-crafted yurt for two, mesmerisingly secluded on the edge of a magical Scottish Borders forest, with spectacular views of the Pentland Hills from the wood-fired hot tub.

Blissfully far from the beaten tourist track, you'll discover the cosy, secluded Chalybeate Yurt on a small and sustainable Scottish Borders farm that's teeming with nature, run by friendly owners Amy and Peter.

On the southern edge of the magical, 800-acre Deepsyke Forest, you can also enjoy mesmerising views of the entire Pentland Hills range... in fact, it'll be incredibly hard to believe that bustling Edinburgh lies just 30 minutes south!

Lovingly hand-crafted from Scottish larch, the yurt boasts plenty of toasty insulation and a wood-burning stove that means whatever the weather, you'll be perfectly warm and snug.   

What's more, you'll find that Amy and Peter have taken thoughtful care of every holiday comfort. Powered by the farm's small wind turbine, there's a small yet well-equipped kitchen that's ideal for whipping up feasts from fresh ingredients (you'll even find a selection of seasonal foraging recipes on hand, to help you get started!)

There's a downy double bed to curl up in, and when you are ready for entertainment, head through the yurt's ‘secret' door, straight into the snug. Here awaits a joyfully curated collection of everything you'll need to relax, unwind, and unleash your creative spirit.

Curl up on the sofa with your favourite from a colourful library of photography and art books, get lost in a vintage magazine or a classic novel, and get the atmosphere right with great sound from the vintage record player, with a wide selection of vinyl that's been carefully chosen to reflect the changing seasons. There is also community based internet if you want to watch a movie.

But if you'd rather relax outside to a soundtrack of nature, all you have to do is wander through the snug into the an inside/outside shower that leads to the wood fired hot tub deck with a drinks shelf and a comfy curved bench. On the other side of the yurt step immediately into the woods, with a hammock, a firepit and a bench.

Amy and Peter will have fired the hot tub up for you in advance, and recommend soaking up the views of the sun melting into the Pentland Hills, as the birds put on a concert in the whispering trees.

If you can't bear to leave, there are neighbouring red deer, swallows and wagtails, honey buzzards, and red kites to spot (and plenty more besides), plus seasonal blooms that will fill your soul with joy.

Prefer exploring? The quaint, historic village of Carlops is a 2km walk away, and the conservation village of West Linton is 4km, where you'll find The Gordon Arms - a local pub that welcomes dogs and boasts a really talented chef.

Of course, there's plenty of scope to test out those walking boots, too, from the extensive tracks that criss-cross the Pentland Hills, traversing the drove roads that brought cattle down from the Highlands, or even ambling into Edinburgh.

However, we're willing to bet that your favourite route will be the one that leads you all the way back to your new-found sanctuary at Chalybeate Yurt.

Check in from 4pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Check out by 10am. Please bring warm clothes, waterproofs, a torch, and sturdy footwear. Pet-friendly.
