Celtic Harmony Roundhouses
England / Brickendon, Hertfordshire
Full description
Take a fascinating step back in time, with an overnight family stay in an ancient dwelling, complete with a bat walk and campfire storytelling, soothingly nestled in rural East Hertfordshire.
Based in the ancient, rural East Hertfordshire village of Brickendon, Celtic Harmony is an award-winning charity that aims to spirit guests magically back in time, by offering immersive cultural experiences of natural prehistoric life.
Their authentic camp comprises an open-air museum, and a charming circle of five thatched-roofed, family-sized Roundhouses, which provide the setting for a dedicated overnight experience that's quite unlike any other.
You'll be welcomed with a delicious meat, vegetarian, or vegan barbecue-style dinner. Afterwards, relax with some captivating Celtic storytelling from your friendly Prehistory host - and plenty of toasted marshmallows! - around the campfire.
Your host will then lead you into the surrounding native woodland on an enchanting Bat Walk that will also help you burn off all that delicious food...
...before you settle back down by the fire together, to enjoy warm drinks and laughter-fuelled conversation under the emerging stars.
When it's finally time to turn in, simply head for your cosy, fairy-lit Roundhouse, furnished with a kingsize bed and up to three singles. With all linen and towels provided, you can pack perfectly light; in fact, all you have to focus on is drifting off into a sound and blissfully silent night's sleep.
Awake to a continental breakfast of freshly baked croissants, and relax into a gentle morning filled with fresh air and birdsong.
If you'd like to soak up that soothing prehistoric ambience for just a little longer, then why not add a family day out to your stay?
Packed with fun and educational activities that hark back to a simpler and more sustainable way of life, you'll embark on a woodland quest and build your own shelter, as well as practising your aim on a mammoth in the hunting zone!
Learn more about Stone Age life with thrilling talks and demonstrations in the dedicated encampment, then set to work on crafting your own prehistoric pot, before watching the Friction fire lighting display.
End your day with another round of Celtic storytelling by the fire - an activity that's sure to become addictive! - as you prepare to return home armed with a collection of fun, and refreshingly unique, family memories.
