Superbly positioned on mesmerising acres of natural Andalucian hillside, Casa Canelo Circus Wagon is a restored 19th century showman’s wagon that recreates the magical wonder of the Big Top itself.

Surrounded by a spectacular vista of rolling mountains, hillside grassland, and whispering olive trees, the cheerful retreat is regularly visited by flocks of friendly goats from the local farming community, complete with tinkling bells.

A dream for lovers of wildlife, you can also expect to feast your eyes on eagles, lizards, owls, and foxes during your stay – and there’s even a stunning model giraffe waiting to greet you on arrival!

Owned by a friendly family of native Scots with a background in hospitality, you can expect both a warm welcome and wonderful attention to detail from the wagon itself.

Inside, red-and-white-striped walls, vintage posters, and quirky themed accessories give the feel of being right at the heart of the circus action, and there are plenty of colourful, snuggly places for you to curl up and enjoy slow-lane rural living.

A wall-mounted iPad entertainment system takes care of cosy evenings in, and there’s a modern kitchen to help you rustle up romantic feasts, savoured at the dining table with a bottle of local wine.

Prefer dining al fresco? Simply wander outside to your barbecue patio, and enjoy a sizzling supper as the blazing sun sinks over the mountains… bliss! When you’ve finished, why not enjoy an evening tipple from your deck, and watch the stars come out to play?

After a sound night’s sleep in the downy double bed, freshen up in your invigorating shower cabin-with-a-view. Then, simply cradle your morning coffee back out on the deck, furnished with gentle rocking chairs, and let the unique ‘campo chorus’ of native bird and wildlife ease you into your day.

What you do with the rest of it depends on your energy levels! You could opt for staying put and relaxing by the shimmering 8 x 4 metre pool, strewn with sun loungers and shades, or curling up in a hammock, accompanied by a good book.

You could also choose to lace up your hiking boots and explore scenic trails that lead across five acres of natural hillside and enormous boulder fields, or jump in the car and visit some of southern Spain’s most awe-inspiring places.

Just 20 minutes from the historic ‘Pueblo Blanco’ of Alora, the iconic beaches of the Costa del Sol are also in easy reach. You can get lost in quaint mountaintop villages, visit intricate Moorish castles… or if you’re feeling brave enough, embark on the Caminito del Rey, an incredibly scenic cliff-side path elevated over El Chorro Gorge.

(In other words, the idea of running away to the circus has never been more tempting!)
