Boris the Military Pod
Polish those jack boots, brush off your camo, and quick march to Boris the Military Pod - a truly one-of-its-kind glamping pod on the stunning Isle of Skye. Atteeeention!
Boris the Military Pod is a former military trailer which has been given an ingenious new lease of life as a unique island abode for two intrepid guests. Found in the ruggedly remote township of Kylerhea, at the headquarters of renowned tour company Skye Jeep Tours, Boris offers an unforgettable chance to sleep in a piece of military history and wake each morning to the most breath-taking views imaginable.
As you arrive, there's no mistaking Boris. Set upon huge wheels (which clearly mean serious business!), the sight of this hulking camouflage pod will quickly confirm you're in the right place. However, don't be fooled by appearances; behind that metal front door, you'll find a wonderfully inviting and cosy haven with every comfort you could need - and a few more surprises along the way.
The first thing that strikes you is just how light and airy Boris is, thanks to classic cream décor and windows on either side. Everything is cleverly arranged to include all necessities and to maximise space, while plaid curtains and striped sofa cushions add welcoming of touches of home.
The compact kitchen area has all you need for simple self-catering, including a hob, an oven, a fridge and a microwave, as well as all your cutlery and crockery (no mess tins here). Even essentials such as salt and pepper, tea and coffee, kitchen roll and washing-up liquid have been provided. All you need to do is bring your favourite rations and decide who gets to be camp cook.
The cosy living space doubles up as a dining area, while above, the newly installed skylight with built-in midge netting floods Boris with fresh air and even more light. Handy shelves and a chest of drawers provide plenty of space for all your knickknacks, and there's even an old-school car radio with cassette player for listening to your favourite tunes from the past.
Dispel any fears of uncomfortable army camp beds while staying here - Boris features sumptuous memory foam mattresses on his two single beds, as well as beautiful linen for your ultimate comfort. All towels are also provided (non-military issue, of course!).
Come morning, freshen up in Boris' wet room, which also has a toilet, sink and hairdryer. And, whatever the weather may be outside, you're sure to stay beautifully warm thanks to superb insulation and the Eberspächer heater which keeps Boris cosy both day and night.
As you follow the track from Boris, you'll be awe struck by the sensational views that greet you. Kylerhea is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, unspoilt and remote. There are no shops or restaurants - just the opportunity to relax and explore the astounding vistas of sea, sky and mountain, as well as the abundant wildlife. There is a wildlife hide around a 30 minute walk from Boris - if you're lucky, you could spot anything from otters and dolphins to deer and eagles. Pine-marten walks are offered by a local wildlife expert in the summer months, and you may even spot them around your accommodation. But to really experience Skye's incredible wilderness, nothing beats an ‘off the beaten' track adventure in a Jeep!
Luckily, you're in the right place. Skye Jeep Tours lets you explore the most hard-to-reach places on this stunning island. What's more, it's the only tour company in the world which uses a real vintage Jeep to do so. Marianne may have racked up some mileage during her time, but she's still got style as she whisks you off to some classic Skye locations. For longer trips, a luxurious Jeep Cherokee is on hand - perfect for exploring the mainland's wild and wonderful Torridon mountain range.
So, the next time you're planning a holiday operation, make it an unforgettable one at Boris the Military Pod - for adventure, exploration and a good deal of fun on the side!

Tried and tested
"We had an amazing stay at Boris! The location is stunningly beautiful and the friendly welcome we received from Lynne and Sam was lovely. With Boris being just a short walk to some wildlife hides and the ferry across to Glenelg it it perfectly situated for some wildlife spotting. We were visited by a pine marten one evening next to Boris and down at the ferry slipway we were treated to a fly past from one of the local white tailed eagles. During our stay we also enjoyed a trip with Sam as part of the Skye Jeep Tours which they run. This was also perfect and we very much enjoyed our day out and Sam is an excellent guide around Skye. Many thanks to Lynne and Sam. Long live Boris!"

"The Boris experience can't be recommended enough - secluded location but easily accessible - via the bridge or the more exciting turn-table ferry! My partner had the best nights sleep in ages - fitted in easily despite his 6" 4 height! Hosts were so welcoming and full of local tips to help make your stay even better! Enjoyed walking down to the beach in the evening to try and spot the local wildlife. We will be back!!"
"My husband, myself and our two dogs are just back from a 5 night stay in Boris and what a wonderful time we had. Lynne & Sam (& Brymer) are brilliant hosts, really go out their way to make sure your stay is comfortable and enjoyable. We will definitely recommend and hopefully be back. Boris is a unique experience and a great base while touring Skye. Thanks again."
