Full description
Two cosy former bunk-rooms for slow, sustainable living, peacefully secluded amongst ancient, wildlife-steeped woodland on the edge of Dartmoor National Park.

Surrounded by National Trust Woodland, Blytheswood is a Site of Special Scientific Interest that's characterised by ancient, whispering trees and abundant wildlife.

Nestled on the eastern edge of the Dartmoor National Park, this is a magical place for weary souls to relax and recharge, amongst unspoilt nature at its fascinating and beautiful best.

Passionate about preserving this awe-inspiring natural environment, the owners have seen to it that their self-created spaces, The Cabin and The Nest, are powered by green electricity, use eco-cleaning products, and recycle as much as possible.

As such, you'll find them filled with family heirlooms and upcycled gems, in a ‘make do and mend' ethos that inspires a warm feeling of home.

Sleeping up to two adults and a child (or two children if you don't mind squeezing in!), The Cabin was a bunk room in a former life.  Now you'll find it transformed into a soothing, self-contained space with all the modern facilities you could need.

There's a double bed with a pull-out single for sound nights of slumber, and a kitchenette with two electric induction hobs (as well as those all-important holiday essentials: a kettle and a toaster!)

You'll have a private en-suite loo, and a gorgeous woodland shower to freshen up in. And as you might expect, there's ample outdoor space, complete with mesmerising woodland views, to enjoy as you savour an al fresco supper sizzled on the barbecue.

Also a former bunk room, the owners have carefully restored The Nest to create a separate self-contained retreat that's perfect for a romantic couple (one child can also be accommodated on request).

Inside, an electric ceramic radiator will keep you lovely and toasty, and there's a double bed to curl up in after a long day of exploring the Great Outdoors. A short stroll leads you to the facilities: a toilet, a washing-up sink and a fridge, and there are plenty of spots to light a fire under the stars... perhaps accompanied by a few toasted marshmallows!

What to do once you've settled in? There's an abundance of glorious woodland walks to be taken right from the door. Head along the river to Dunsford Nature Reserve, or up to the legendary Heltor Rock for some truly outstanding country scenery.

Dunsford Village is home to friendly tearooms and a Post Office shop that stocks fresh bread and local cheeses - perfect for an afternoon treat! There's a selection of pubs in walking distance, too; an ideal stopping point after an epic day of exploring Dartmoor.

Things to note

Check in from 4pm, check out by 10:30am. Minimum two-night stay. Please let the owners know if you are taking a car-free route to the site, so they can arrange a special offer for you. Please note that the site is on a steep hill, with uneven woodland paths to navigate.
