A pretty former stable block holiday cottage with a very quirky secret ...

Badger's Rest, a self-catering holiday let on the outskirts of Norfolk's historic Snettisham, hides an unusual secret. It's true that not every house in this village can boast its own swimming pool and sauna - but that's not the full secret. Let's just say you've never gone for a dip in a pool like this before...

Formally a stable block, Badger's Rest is a two-bedroom property adjoined to the owners' home, all the while retaining its own privacy and giving guests the ultimate chance to relax and unwind.  It sits adjacent to the old Snettisham railway platform that served the line between Hunstanton and King's Lynn until 1969 - a feature that is pivotal to this house's secret.

On first entering this very well-appointed home, Badger's Rest appears to be just that, with nothing out of the ordinary.  Beautifully decorated to a very high standard, this welcoming bungalow offers luxurious and spacious accommodation for a family of four and a baby.

In the roomy, L-shaped living area, guests can relax, cook and dine in comfort.  The fully equipped kitchen, with a gas hob and electric cooker, includes just about every utensil you'll need for easy self-catering, while the dining area seats four in comfortable, high-backed chairs - perfect for post-dinner discussions long into the evening.  For relaxation, the lounge area enjoys a comfortable sofa and armchair, from which to watch the wall-mounted television.

Badger's Rest's two comfortable bedrooms - a double room and twin room - are adjacent to one another, making this an ideal set-up for a family.  Both rooms are large enough to accommodate an additional cot, while the comfy beds, soft duvets and rich, luxurious curtains make for a cosy night's sleep for everyone.

Outside, a private patio garden is an ideal spot for relaxing while listening to birdsong and enjoying the tranquillity of the Norfolk countryside, while a parasol provides shade on sunny days, allowing you to enjoy al fresco dining in comfort.

So, what's the secret?

Well, Badger's Rest isn't just a peaceful place to relax and unwind - it also offers guests the opportunity to swim in a pool like no other.

In a most ingenious design decision, the inviting swimming pool is sunk into the space where the former railway tracks were sited, with the original railway platforms still remaining on each side.  The walls of each platform serve as the walls of the indoor pool house, at the end of which is a separate WC and changing room.  Now, how clever is that?!

This truly creative swimming pool makes Badger's Rest completely unique to any other holiday let, and for a small additional charge, guests have full use of the fantastic pool and sauna for the duration of their stay - a chance you won't want to miss.

If you can drag yourself from the railway platform poolside during your stay, the centre of picturesque Snettisham is only a minute's drive away.  As well as a post office and a number of small shops for necessities, the village also offers a range of places to eat out, including pubs, a bistro, a garden centre with its own café, and a craft centre with a teashop.

Snettisham Beach, well known for its bird reserve, makes a wonderful day out for exploring or even sailing.  The kids will love nearby Park Farm, offering a totally unique deer safari experience. Dersingham and Pensthorpe are also in easy reach, and well worth a visit. The Royal Estate of Sandringham, the Queen's Norfolk residence, is within a few minutes' drive - you may even see her and the Royal Family at church at Christmas if you wait long enough!

So when visiting this beautiful corner of Norfolk, there is no cosier place to stay than Badger's Rest, and certainly nowhere else where you can wear your swimming costume on a railway platform!
