Wartime-style romance in a cosy Ammunition Wagon hideaway on the Kent and East Sussex steam railway line.
  • Sleeps: 2 (+2)
  • Bedroom: 1
  • Bathroom: 1
  • Minimum stay: 2 nights

From the moment you arrive, you’re sure to feel that Northiam Steam Railway Station, beautifully bordered by country greenery, is the perfect setting for a converted wartime ammunition wagon.  Not only will the peaceful scenery instantly captivate, but you’ll feel transported to nostalgic times past as you watch steam trains roll in and out of the station.

Cosily furnished, clean-lined and irresistibly snug, the 1944 Ammunition Wagon in fact began life as a War Department vehicle, immaculately crafted by the renowned Charles Roberts & Co.

These days, instead of vital war-effort ammunition you’ll find a comfy double bed inside, along with a sofa bed, sleeping up to four people in total.  And while this is a true vintage wagon, you’ll find plenty of mod-cons to keep you entertained, warm and refreshed all holiday through!  There’s a TV and plenty of power sockets, along with toasty heating and an en-suite shower room.

There’ll be no wartime rationing here either, with a sizzling barbecue to help your evenings along from the comfort of your private garden.  Alternatively, get someone else to do all the catering work…with not one but two fantastic places to eat within half a mile of your wagon there’s no excuse not to indulge.

Spend lazy sunny days in the garden with a good book, or simply let your mind wander as you watch steam trains chug in and out of the station, maybe imagining yourself as the main character in a wartime romance story!

If you prefer getting out and exploring a little, you’ll soon find the Wagon is an ideal base from which to enjoy everything this beautiful area has to offer.   Take a stroll into the leafy village of Northiam, or with the Kent and East Sussex Railway literally on the doorstep, simply catch a train and choose your favourite stop!

For alternative ways to travel, the Bodiam boating station is close by, offering the refreshing opportunity for you to kayak or boat-ride your way along the sparkling River Rother.  Or how about a guided eBike tour of the local area?
