Full description
An iconic American school bus, creatively transformed into an off-grid haven with loving attention to detail, nestled in the South Downs National Park close to the dramatic white cliffs of Beachy Head.

Skoolie Stays is the spectacular result of an epic family gap year, spent travelling 14,000 miles through the good ol' US of A!

Living on board an off-grid Skoolie - an iconic American school bus - the friendly owners even stayed for a few months with a dedicated Skoolie community, learning how to convert these iconic vehicles into truly spectacular living spaces. When it came time to return home, they felt inspired to bring a new bus back with them to convert themselves.

Sleeping up to four guests, their amazing bus is now beautifully positioned on a quiet farm in the South Downs National Park, for a unique off-grid glamping break that offers a perfect balance of luxury, freedom, and low-impact living.

From the moment you step on board, you'll marvel at the imagination and pure attention to detail throughout.

Toastily insulated with sheep's wool, and warmed by a clean-burning log stove, the high-ceilinged interior has been lovingly hand-built using recycled American oak and recovered teak... including solid oak herringbone flooring.

Along with artistic flourishes and craft-led décor, there are plenty of creative nods to the past, including a gorgeous ‘American diner' eating space, expertly crafted from the original bus seats and a real school table. Not to mention the driver's cab area, with all the buttons and levers perfectly intact!

Fully self-contained, you'll discover a spacious on-board kitchen with a gas-stove top and a fridge-freezer, while the bathroom is much more than you might reasonably expect in a bus, featuring a shiny-tiled shower. There's also a state-of-the-art, odour-free composting loo.

When it's time to turn in, you'll have a master kingsize bedroom to retreat to, along with comfy 6ft Murphy-style foldaway bunks that hide during the day.

The Skoolie is off-grid and sites are chosen because they offer access to jaw-dropping rural views and mesmerising Sussex sunsets..

Wherever you happen to be, you can immerse yourselves completely in the rural charms of the South Downs, Britain's newest National Park, and a renowned natural beauty spot.

Explore the 160km South Downs Way on two feet or two wheels, with easy access to Seven Sisters Country Park where you'll find the stunning white cliffs used as a backdrop for several films, most notably Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

You'll also have the opportunity to pay a visit to the exquisite Towner Gallery in Eastbourne or the Bedfordshire Theatre. And then, perhaps a stroll along the promenade, before returning to your iconic retreat, pouring a glass of wine, and sinking into the deep leather sofa to mark the beginning of yet another perfect evening.

Things to note

The Skoolie can't be hired to drive yourself, but if you'd like to choose your own scenery, you can arrange for it to be dropped off at a destination of your choice (subject to conditions.) Not suitable for pets.
