A blissful rural idyll, Redwood Retreat represents everything that’s so wondrous and magical about life lived in the Great Welsh Outdoors.

Completely off-grid, the adults-only site offers pure off-grid luxury, with solar panels, a natural water source, and a wind turbine that was designed and handmade by friendly owners Andy and Katherine themselves.

Elevated 300 metres above sea level, there are plenty of visual treats to enjoy on site. A mile from Rhayader, red kites are frequent visitors, along with goldfinches, swallows, robins, and even a cheeky hare! Meanwhile, across the gorgeous green valley, you can spot playful lambs and calves during springtime.

There are just two beautiful, fully-furnished geodesic domes to choose from, each boasting private cooking and shower facilities, and a huge panoramic window.

Named Hafod and Norwegian Wood, both domes are secluded on their own private decking to showcase views so exceptional, you may not want to go to sleep (that is, until you’ve actually curled up in the sumptuous kingsize bed awaiting you inside!)

Hafod is set within a small quarry, with a shimmering wildlife pond nearby… if you’re lucky, you might catch sight of a dragonfly. Dimmable lighting and a large woodburning stove create a cosy sanctuary by evening, while the hot outdoor shower promises an invigorating freshen-up after a long day exploring the local area.

You’ll find Norwegian Wood dreamily positioned amongst a fragrant cluster of conifers, with a cosy sofa, soft rugs, and a stunning skylight right above the bed, for the very best views of that dark, star-studded canvas above… and again, there’s an outdoor hot shower to greet you in the morning.

Fire up the charcoal barbecue, or treat yourselves to supper cooked in your very own kitchenette. Along with all the utensils and cooking equipment you could want, there’ll tea, coffee, and freshly home-baked Welsh cakes awaiting your arrival, and you can season your meals with herbs picked from the trough just outside your dome.

Spend your holiday time getting delightfully lost in conversation, either with each-other in your own space, or with new friends at the communal ‘chill-out’ dome nearby.

What the guests of Redwood Retreat say

“Amazing! The pictures don’t do the dome justice. This was one of the best holidays I have had. The dome is beautiful, it has everything you need. The bed is also extremely comfortable! Andy and Katherine have thought of everything and the welsh cakes and bara brith were delicious. The dome is situated in a lovely spot and the views are incredible. Couldn’t recommend enough.”

“Our stay at Norwegian Wood was amazing! Andy and Catherine were the best hosts you could ask for- very informative about the Dome both before we arrived and when we got there. They provided everything we needed and more (delicious Welsh cakes on arrival!). It was very clear an amazing amount of work has gone into the Domes to make them lovely places to stay. When the sun was shining we loved chilling out on the deck or down by the chill out dome, admiring the gorgeous view. Even when it tipped it down with rain we loved being in the Dome- listening to the rain with a cup of tea in hand was so relaxing! The closest town, Rhayader, was great to explore, and we found plenty to do in neighbouring areas. Couldn’t have asked for a better holiday!”
