Merzouga Luxury Desert Camp
Morocco / Merzouga, Drâa-Tafilalet
Full description
A sumptuous setting, full of adventure and relaxation amongst the awe-inspiring Moroccan desert dunes.
The Moroccan desert is a special and captivating location, something Merzouga Luxury Desert Camp showcases to its greatest effect.
Situated within the tranquil, windswept Erg Chebbi - a truly breathtaking sea of Saharan sand dunes - this is the magical desert backdrop that dreams are made of.
Your journey to the camp takes around nine hours by chauffeured Jeep which are hired at the time of booking (if you're pushed for time, you can always arrive via private jet), but you'll soon find that the desert-bound drive is a spectacular part of your experience in itself.
You'll travel through a transformational landscape of mountain passes, lush valleys, rock formations and palm groves, through bustling Marrakech and on to the peaceful, open desert vista. Ideally, you'll arrive just as the sun is starting to sink over those magnificent sand dunes - heaven!
Feel like Arabian royalty as you arrive in the camp, which features authentic nomadic tents made from camel skin. The main camp is made up of fifteen tents, while if you prefer a little more seclusion you can choose a tent in the private camp instead, with just five tents in prime dune-viewing position.
Opulent furnishings and cosy beds await you inside, along with air conditioning, heating, a sink, shower and a private loo...these are tents as you've never experienced them before. With no distracting WiFi, you can luxuriate in these glorious surroundings to your heart's content.
Following a leisurely evening meal and a sound night's sleep, indulge in a sunset camel ride, or greet the day in style with a meditation session.
There's a wide choice of activities and adventure to suit every personality type, from day-long desert excursions to heart-stopping 4 x 4 experiences. Later on, why not take tea - or Champagne if you happen to be celebrating - in the dunes?
Meanwhile, friendly staff are on hand throughout your stay, always ready with extra blankets, tea and stargazing snacks, or excursion suggestions to suit your tastes.
They're a talented bunch, too, with each staff member able to sing or play a musical instrument. Expect joyous bursts of authentic music at impromptu times of the day, and especially as you settle in around the twilight campfire. If you're in the mood, you can even book extra entertainment - how about some belly dancing, or a troupe of traditional gnaouas to brighten your evening?
In fact, these choices are just about the only effort demanded of you in this amazingly calm and beautiful desert setting. So sit back and admire those ever-changing dunes, delicious drink in hand, and breathe out. Time to revel in a truly unique stay you'll want to capture in your mind's eye forever more.
Things to note
As this is a remote setting, Wi-Fi is not available. No minimum stay but 2 nights is recommended due to the remoteness of the location. Prices include breakfast, dinner and one 15 minute camel ride. Transfers are not included and 4WD is needed to reach the camp, and this is pre-bookable. Enquire for details.
