Long Valley Yurts Coniston
England / Nr Coniston, Cumbria
Full description
A selection of cosily furnished, family-sized yurts with Scandinavian wood-fired hot tubs, nestled on a peaceful working hill farm in the Lake District, and achingly close to the coast.
With Coniston Water in one direction, and the windswept coast in the other, you'll be spoilt for choice of things to see and to at Long Valley Yurts' idyllic Coniston location!
Peacefully secluded on a working Lakeland hill farm strewn with sheep, lambs, hens, ponies, and Hereford cattle, you'll feel as though you've left your hectic everyday lives far behind...
...though with a friendly village and a charming pub both accessible in a half-hour walk, you can re-enter civilisation as and when you choose.
Situated in their own field, there are six beautifully furnished 18ft yurts to choose from, each sleeping up to six guests. Ideal for families, two of the yurts are dog-friendly, and all come complete with their very own Scandinavian wood-fired hot tub, which you can book for a private soaking session under the stars.
Modelled on the ornate, traditional Turkmen style, and set on a raised wooden platform, each yurt has been expertly crafted from sustainable ash, and is covered with a thick, weather-proof poly cotton canvas.
Inside, there's a vibrant Moroccan feel, with plenty of soft blankets and woollen rugs in bright, uplifting colours.
A wood-burning stove will keep everyone toasty on cool evenings, while a small gas hob and every utensil you could want means you can keep the holiday packing light.
Chat the evening away surrounded by soft-glowing fairy lights, and when it's finally slumber-time, simply unfold the futon-style beds (a mixture of doubles and singles), and curl up under freshly laundered duvets - no sleeping bags required! The central skylight showcases those stars, helping you drift off to a sound night's sleep.
And with so much activity to immerse yourselves in during the day, you're going to need that rest!
After a delicious breakfast of fresh-laid eggs, you could start with a trip into Coniston for some wild swimming, or an energetic climb of the iconic ‘Old Man' of Coniston, while the picturesque beaches of Haverigg and Silecroft are just 15 minutes away.
Further afield lie the delights of Scafell Pike - England's highest mountain - or you could take a day trip to Muncaster Castle. Oh, and not forgetting La'al Ratty... the famous miniature train that runs from Eskdale to Ravenglass.
Finish off with a spot of canoeing, and that's another memorable day well-spent!
Things to note
The yurts are available to book from March to November.
