Unforgettable retreats in the Herefordshire countryside don't come more cosy than at The Bothy - a beautiful converted barn on a friendly farm, in a serene and secluded valley.

Sleeping up to four guests, The Bothy offers exquisite self-catering accommodation, just three miles from popular Hay-on-Wye. You'll find it tucked away on a small farm at the bottom of a stunning little valley, found at the end of a gently winding country lane. As you approach, you're sure to feel any strains and stresses drift away, courtesy of stunning open countryside, lush meadows and vast skies above.

The Bothy oozes traditional character on the outside - thanks to its stone exterior and slate roof - yet behind that front door you'll discover a peaceful haven of contemporary minimalism, blending lovingly selected furnishings and beautiful décor for total tranquillity. Whitewashed walls create a light and airy feel, while fabulous flagstone floors add a touch of country charm. And with underfloor heating throughout, you'll be snug and cosy whatever the weather's doing.

The ground floor features an open-plan living area, comprising a kitchen, dining area and sitting room - perfect for socialising and relaxing. The grey L-shaped sofa is ideal for curling up under sheepskin throws and chilling out in front of the TV (with Sky+), or perhaps enjoying some of the games and books you'll find at The Bothy. There's also a toasty woodburner - excellent for warming those toes after a day in the Herefordshire countryside!

The dining table and chairs for four - painted a shade of peaceful green - is large enough for laying out delicious breakfasts, light lunches and hearty suppers, all of which can be prepared in the fully fitted kitchen area. With an oven and gas hob, large fridge-freezer and all the pots, pans, crockery and cutlery you could need, self-catering is easy at The Bothy.

However, if you wish, you can always opt for tasty daily breakfasts or scrumptious communal dinners (up to three times a week) courtesy of your hosts! Made from fresh farm produce, you're invited to leave the cooking to someone else and tuck into this delectable fare in the Chill-Out Barn (more on that later...).

Back at The Bothy, climb the tastefully painted grey wooden staircase to find two bedrooms, both with the added benefit of en-suite shower rooms. Cuddle up in the double bed in the Master bedroom, or opt for the second bedroom, which can be configured as a twin room or king-size room to suit your needs.

The Bothy also benefits from space outside to enjoy fine weather, whether you're sipping coffee at the outdoor dining table or firing up the BBQ. You're invited to explore the farm's communal spaces too - don't forget to drop by and meet the animals on your way!

And then there's the Chill-Out Barn - a recently renovated barn for all the farm's guests to relax on comfy sofas and bean bags in front of the fire, watch TV, play games (including table tennis!) and read. You'll also find the farm shop in here - perfect for picking up your favourite produce, as well as award-winning tea, coffee and sometimes even cake! Best yet, the Honesty Bar keeps you well stocked with your favourite tipple without even having to leave the farm.

If you do though, you're spoiled for choice when it comes to things to do. A visit to historic Hay-on-Wye is a must for its shops, castle and plethora of bookshops. Herefordshire is a walkers' paradise (with the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains both in easy distance), so grab an Ordnance Survey map from the living area and get ready to ramble. And, as you're on the border of England and Wales, there's the best of both countries to see, so jump in the car and get exploring!

At the end of a long day's adventures, a return to The Bothy is the icing on the cake - where peace, style and relaxation blend together for a totally unforgettable countryside retreat.
