Set sail on a luxury boating break in London, hosted by knowledgeable enthusiasts and tailored to your every need.

Have you ever fancied a different kind of holiday? One in which the beautiful ‘secret village' of London glides serenely past, as you enjoy a drink from the comfort of your private, lounge-worthy deck.

Bert and the Whale was especially created from a genuine love of London, and a genuine love of boating. Aboard your seven-berth, luxury widebeam - twice the width of a traditional narrow boat, and with plenty of space - a whole new holiday world is waiting for you.

Better still, this is a flexible break that's completely bespoke to you. Not only can you choose your ideal route and your perfect pace, you can opt to drive the boat yourself (with full training provided), or sit back and relax with a full or partial skipper service.

Rather than just booking online or emailing dates, you're encouraged to speak to the friendly owners before you set sail, so they can help you plan out your ideal route.

Whatever your pleasure, be it viewing the royal palaces, immersing yourselves in rural tranquility, or joining the energising bustle of London's urban waterways, you can indulge it here, with as many knowledgeable suggestions and culture-steeped side-trips added on as you like!

Whichever route you opt for, you'll begin and end your journey at Limehouse Basin, a soothing city oasis that connects the Thames, the tranquil Rivers Lee and Stort, and the lively Regent's Canal.

Your boat, meanwhile, is styled and furnished to gleaming perfection, equipped with luxuries that include a Japanese soaking tub with fluffy towels, a flushing loo, a woodburning stove, and plenty of sumptuous seating.

There's also a well-equipped kitchen with oak worktops and a large dining table, a night-lit front deck, and a generous rear deck for morning coffee (there's even access to the roof, if you want to take in even more of that magnificent scenery).

When it's time to turn in, choose your ideal sleeping arrangements from a kingsize master bedroom, a bunk room with a single day bed, and a cosy fold-out double sofa bed in the lounge...all with fresh bedding provided.

While away lazy afternoons in a country pub, enjoy a round of heady cocktails in a late-night bar, or head to the theatre for a shot of culture - the choice is yours!

Of course, you could always opt to stay on board, watching the ever-changing view from your boat's expansive windows (or even the TV, if you prefer). This is boutique accommodation that's worthy of any five-star hotel, with London's captivating waterways laid right at your feet.

Things to note

Midweek hire is also possible in low season, enquire for details. Pets welcome.

Tried and tested

"Two night cruise from Limehouse to Cheshunt, as Limehouse locals we loved waving to the east along our usual dog walking route. Boat was gorgeous, cosy and comfortable even on the cold nights and days. Great to have another perspective on the London sights and to discover the party boat under the north circular! Highlights - cruising the Limehouse cut, the Olympic stadium, the comfy day bed, a Burns supper then sailing back into our hood."

"Warm, comfortable, cosy, the best introduction into boat life and we are completely hooked! An experience on canal life with tuition from Anna on using and driving the boat, two miles an hour but totally exhilarating! Amazing, could have done with another few days."

"We had an amazing time on board with Bert and the Whale. We had 6 people on the boat and there was enough room to function properly. The design was beautiful and functional, the bathroom is the perfect size and the heating kept us toasty warm. We had an amazing time in London and the 3 days we spent on the boat. We give it a 5 star rating!"
