The Cider House
England / Near Bridport, Dorset
If life and work are getting too much, grab your loved ones and head for Higher Kingsland Farm in Dorset, where you'll find The Cider House ready and waiting for you to relax.
Lovingly styled and ridiculously cosy, friendly owners Eddy and Caroline have put a great deal of care into transforming The Cider House from a humble stone and cob barn into the ultimate rural retreat. Eco-friendly and designed to be cool in summer and toasty in winter, you can enjoy the beauty of this rustic corner of Dorset in every one of its changing seasons.
Sleeping up to four people, you'll find an inviting kingsize bedroom and a mezzanine area above the living space (accessed by a fixed ladder) that features a super kingsize bed or two singles - whichever you prefer.
The sociable living space itself is gorgeously homely, with plenty of comfy seating, a well-equipped kitchen and a dining area you're likely to spend hours chatting in, surrounded by warm-toned décor and lively pops of colour.
You'll find great attention to detail has been paid to those self-catering additions that make holiday life that much easier, such as proper pans, sharp kitchen knives and plenty of high-quality accessories. Meanwhile, the bathroom is generously equipped with soft, fluffy towels and indulgent toiletries...an ideal setting for holing yourself up with bubbles and a good book.
Home entertainment is given high priority too, with a selection of board games, books, a TV and DVD player, and DAB radio with Bluetooth connection all available (translation: you'll never be bored, even when it's raining outside!) On fine days, there's an OS Map available to borrow, helping your exploring along.
Of course, you could always while away those sunny afternoons in the garden instead. The outdoor areas are shielded for privacy and feature a lawn, a fixed barbecue area and plenty of seating for you to enjoy a sizzling supper...before a spot of stargazing in the clear night sky.
Fourteen acres of farm fields surround the house, complete with soothing views across rolling Marshwood Vale countryside - perfect for inspiring a restful night's sleep.
You'll find a separate utility room too, with a handy washing machine and tumble dryer, a freezer, and storage space for at least two bikes. Ask Eddy for advice on the local routes - as a keen cyclist himself, he's always very happy to share his knowledge!
Slightly further afield, just four miles away is the bustling market town of Bridport, a haven for vintage lovers and ideal for antique-hunting. West Bay is a mere mile further, from which you'll have access to the windswept World Heritage site of the Jurassic Coast.
Chat the mornings away over a hearty breakfast, as you plan out yet another exciting day. With so much on offer both in and out of The Cider House, you may be a while!
