Five luxurious wooden hideaways, sumptuously nestled in the woods on the edge of a wildlife-steeped Norfolk valley.

You'll find Chaucer Barn Eco Lodges surrounded by woodland on a 30-acre estate, near the enchanting North Norfolk village of Gresham.

The farm, originally bought by the famed poet Geoffrey Chaucer for his son, way back in the 14th century, is nestled in a soothing valley bordering an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

As if that wasn't enough, the grounds feature stunning gardens, rolling green views, and a magical stone circle, for a stay that will make you feel as though you've been transported right back to soothing times past.

So, it's fitting, perhaps, that none of the five beautifully-crafted Eco Lodges include a distracting TV! However, you'll still find them equipped with everything you'll need for a relaxing break, including a fully-equipped kitchen, a crackling log burner, hand-made, cosy beds, and an en-suite shower room.

The two Large lodges, Yew One and Yew Two, are each furnished with a handmade kingsize bed, and a gleaming kitchen worktop that have both been expertly crafted from 1400 year-old yew tree.  Then there are three Standard lodges, created from oak and London Plane timber, and also featuring handcrafted beds and worktops. There is a cosy, top of the range sofa bed in each lodge.

You'll also be treated to WiFi, soft mood lighting, and even your very own pair of binoculars, so you can keep an eye on the wondrous wildlife that surrounds you in the meadow. Expect to feast your eyes on visiting barn owls, kites, foxes, rabbits...and even the occasional deer.

Of course, as a guest, you'll be free to wander the beautiful grounds at your leisure. Why not start with the five-acre landscaped garden (voted 2nd in the Royal Horticultural Society 2019 garden photo competition) with its creative Japanese ‘cloud' topiary and angled pyramid forest? Then, take a stroll through the wildflower meadow, and breathe in all that pure, fresh air. Who knows, you may return feeling inspired to write a Chaucer-style poem!

If you're in the mood to explore further afield, the beautiful North Norfolk coast is a mere two-and-a-half miles away.  There is a beautiful variety of beaches to choose from, such as the picturesque Wells-next-the-Sea, and Holkham, with its huge sky and vast expanses of sand.

Keen birdwatcher? Then head for the world-famous Salt Marshes, stretching all the way from Cley to Wells. Take a coffee break (or maybe something a little stronger!) at the harbour village of Blakeney along your way, or simply bypass the beach altogether and stroll through the bustling Georgian town of Holt, strewn with independent shops and cafés.

However you decide to spend your days, nothing will beat the feeling of returning to your comforting lodge, for a welcome evening tipple by spectacular sunset.

Things to note

Private parking is available within the farm grounds. The Lodges can be booked in conjunction with the barn, for weddings, special events or just a weekend with friends or family.
