The Decoy Bunker - Keep Calm and stay in an authentic wartime bunker, beautifully restored as a romantic peacetime hideaway in the heart of the Monmouthshire hillsides.

Designed as a decoy target for the Luftwaffe back in 1941, The Decoy Bunker occupies a special place in history. One of only seven bunkers known to exist in Wales, this cosy hideaway is found in nestled in the Monmouthshire hillside and was originally intended to mimic the local munitions factory, misdirecting enemy pilots into believing they had hit a vital target.

Today The Decoy Bunker works just as well in a peacetime setting, lovingly transformed to provide delightfully contemporary and stylish rural accommodation for up to three people and a well-behaved dog, with a stunning backdrop of fresh country views that look out to the soothing Severn Estuary.

Reach The Decoy Bunker through a single-track country lane, with clean, fresh air and tranquil farmland all around.  Feel as though you've just arrived at your very own secluded sanctuary, far away from the bustle of life back home, as you observe the bunker's insulated wooded exterior and grassed roof complete with portal windows, beautifully camouflaged in the tip of the hillside.

Once you've stepped through the door, you'll discover a cosy hideaway quite unlike any other. The décor is fresh, light and modern, yet there is still a sense of traditional wartime romance throughout as you explore your new open-plan surroundings, set off by mountain views that will leave you feeling restored and revived from the moment you look out of the sunny south-facing windows.

The combined living and sleeping area is warmly welcoming, with a sofa that's perfect for sinking into with a good book, and a three-sided log burner to huddle around and swap historic wartime tales by evening.

A stylish, fully-equipped kitchen will help you create fabulous feasts from your daily rations, with a handy foldaway table and chairs to enjoy them at. When you've finished, head out to the rooftop terrace and enjoy soothing green views as you watch the golden sun disappearing over the hills...along with a glass or two of bubbles, of course!

A king-sized double bed, cosily dressed in fresh linen, awaits you when it's time to turn in, with a sofa bed also available if needed. The wet room bathroom is the ideal place to freshen up after a long day exploring the local area, with plenty of fluffy towels provided.

After a hearty breakfast on your first morning, why not raise your head from the cosiness of your private bunker for a while and see what the outside world has to offer? You'll find the local area perfectly packed with everything you need for a holiday full of new adventures, from walking in the unspoilt Brecon Beacons and the idyllic Wye Valley, to fishing on the Usk river, exploring the charming local towns and markets, or even taking a tour of traditional Welsh mines.

There are plenty of pub stops along the way, with historic places of interest including local museums, that will keep absolutely everybody happy and entertained all holiday long.

It's time to see wartime living in a whole new light when you're holed up in The Decoy Bunker, so get packing and prepare yourselves to hunker down in the cosiest and most luxurious manner imaginable!
