The Great Hall, Dollarbeg Castle

Stay in the stylishly converted, former Great Hall of a 19th century baronial landmark, close to Edinburgh and boasting spectacular views of the Ochil Hills.
  • Sleeps: 4
  • Bedrooms: 2
  • Bathrooms: 3
  • Minimum stay: 2 nights

One of the last Gothic baronial style buildings of its kind to be built, the imposing Dollarbeg Castle dates back to the 19th century, surrounded by three acres of immaculate gardens, and the picturesque woodland central Scotland is known for.

The vast, magnificent Great Hall was once used for dancing and socialising back in the 1930s, before serving as a base for RAF radar control during the Second World War.

These days, you’ll find it stylishly transformed into a sumptuous apartment for four guests, boasting grand, vaulted ceilings, and picture windows that showcase panoramic views of the stunning Ochil Hills.

You’ll feel like royal guests, as you scan your elegant surroundings, noting their beautiful blend of vintage-style furnishings and accessories with high-end 21st century facilities.

The impossibly spacious Great Hall itself is on the first floor, complete with sociable, open plan spaces for cooking, dining, and lounging in regal comfort. Here, deep, embroidered sofas and gilded mirrors add historic drama, while polished oak floors, ceiling spotlights, and modern kitchen appliances bring contemporary style.

Relax with one of the many books, jigsaws and games you’ll find generously provided, or switch on the 55″ UHD Smart TV, and watch a Netflix movie together instead.

Head back downstairs to stake your claim on your favourite of two luxurious bedrooms. The kingsize master features an en-suite bathroom and its very own dressing room (ideal if you’ve packed your ceremonial robes!)

What the guests of The Great Hall, Dollarbeg Castle say

“Covid restrictions changed our original holiday plans so we booked at the last minute to stay at The Great Hall to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary – what a great choice we made! The apartment is fabulous and in a brilliant location with St. Andrews and Loch Lomond only an hour away. A visit to the butchers in Dollar plus the local farm shop stocked us up with food to cook in the fabulous kitchen, with the excess walked off up Dollar Glen & Castle Campbell. It was such a relaxing week in The Great Hall, hopefully we will return in the future.”

“We couldn’t have chosen a more perfect location to spend our honeymoon! Everything about The Great Hall exceeded our expectations; just fantastic! We enjoyed trips out to St. Andrews, Blair Castle (where we got engaged) and Stirling. We will certainly be recommending The Great Hall to family & friends and hope to return ourselves very soon!”

“Perfect stay for relaxation and recharging of batteries; ideal for walking and cycling. Fantastic kitchen facilities – everything a chef would need! The welcome hamper was delightful and the cleanliness excellent. One of the top self-catering places we have stayed in, across the world. Will highly recommend to all.”
