The Windmill Suffolk
England / Nr Lavenham, Suffolk
You'll be swept away to the height of luxury at The Windmill Suffolk - a glorious towering bolthole as seen on George Clarke's 'Amazing Spaces' and overlooking idyllic countryside, just two miles north of historic Lavenham.
From a romantic break for two, to a memorable retreat for four, The Windmill Suffolk promises utter indulgence, sublime scenery and the chance to unwind in this adults-only, beautifully converted windmill.
Although the building itself dates back to 1891, an incredible restoration blends the very best contemporary features with the historic fabric of the windmill. Enjoy light, airy interiors, lavish furnishings, and every creature comfort for a totally luxurious stay. And, with the magnificent POD on the fourth floor - one of the most unique living areas you'll ever experience - this windmill comes with hidden treats you won't forget in a hurry.
As you pull up at The Windmill Suffolk, you'll be struck immediately by its stunning exterior - a modern finish on this iconic countryside structure, topped with an award-winning metallic roof. It's a taste of what's to come, as you'll discover when you step into the welcoming lobby and through glass doors into the fabulous kitchen diner.
Fully fitted with an electric oven and hob, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, microwave and even a Nespresso coffee machine, you'll find everything you need for preparing lazy brunches or sumptuous suppers, all to be enjoyed at the large oval dining table. On summer evenings, open the bi-fold doors to bring the outside in, or why not enjoy your meal in your private garden while the sun sets over rolling pastures?
There's also a useful WC on the ground floor, and a handy washer-dryer in the kitchen area. However, there's much more to explore upstairs, so take hold of the bespoke bannister and climb the sweeping curved staircase to the first floor. Here you'll find the first of The Windmill Suffolk's two bedrooms - a peaceful yet plush sanctuary, featuring a king-size bed topped with the very best linen and cosy throws. This room can also be configured as a twin room if you prefer.
On the second floor is the opulent bathroom, finished in marble and mosaic shell and featuring indulgent Elemis toiletries. Re-energise in the refreshing monsoon rain shower while you soak up uninterrupted views of the glorious Suffolk countryside, or unwind in the huge freestanding bath tub. Whatever your preference, both are big enough for two!
The second bedroom is on the third floor - another king-size room oozing contemporary comfort, and just perfect for dreaming sweetly with your loved one. However, the best floor is certainly saved till last, and that's the astounding fourth-floor POD living space.
Featuring two irresistibly comfy velvet sofas, an abundance of plump cushions, and exquisite hand-crafted curved beams, the POD certainly gives ‘highpoint' a new meaning! Whether you're watching your favourite programme on the 47-inch curved internet-enabled TV, or spotting rabbits, deer and pheasants through the telescope on the viewing deck, do it all in total luxury. There's even a wine fridge, so your favourite tipple is always to hand and chilled to perfection.
And if that wasn't enough, the fourth-floor balcony lets you relax back on rattan furniture, take in those unparalleled panoramas and make the most of this piece of heaven in the sky.
The Windmill Suffolk is also ideally situated for exploring this stunning county. Head north by car and, in just over 10 minutes, you'll reach beautiful Bury St Edmunds, while the same distance south brings you to popular Sudbury. Closer to home are a whole host of charming villages, welcoming country pubs serving sensational seasonal produce and locally brewed ales, and peaceful footpaths to explore, while awe-inspiring 16th-century architecture waits in beautiful Lavenham.
Whether your time at The Windmill Suffolk is filled with long country walks, long lazy mornings or simply long-overdue relaxation, you're guaranteed luxury on every beautifully finished level. So, the next time you're ready to treat yourself, do so with five floors of sheer indulgence.
