Lottie and Mabel at the Meadows Campsite
Two gorgeous vintage caravans for hire in idyllic, adults-only campsite in Pentewan, Cornwall.
Step back in time with a stay in a fabulous vintage caravan! Nestled in beautiful Cornwall, Lottie and Mabel are just perfect for couples searching for simple relaxation with a unique retro twist.
The two ladies can be found at The Meadows, a cute and quirky campsite near the coastal village of Pentewan. Just for adults, the site is based in an idyllic, sunny valley, surrounded by wildlife and woodland. As well as welcoming tents and motorhomes, owners John and Lynn have adopted Lottie and Mabel to create a memorable retro retreat for those dipping their toes into camping, or those who just want to experience these totally original holiday hideaways.
First up, 1960s Lottie is a cheery, powder blue, bunting-bedecked caravan. Oozing character and charm, she has been lovingly restored and furnished with retro prints and pieces to offer cute and cosy accommodation for two. Her white walls and wooden floor create a sense of space and light, accented beautifully with the bright striped blinds and navy seat cushions.
Alongside pretty crockery, Cath Kidston glasses and gorgeous GreenGate tableware, Lottie's kitchen is equipped with every utensil you'll need, as well as an electric kettle and fridge. In addition to an outdoor gas stove, a Smokey Joe BBQ is provided for cooking al fresco in your own screened deck area, where you can dine at your pink outdoor table, or relax back with a drink on your striped deckchairs. And if the weather isn't completely fine, that's not a problem, as the sail above is ready to protect you from the elements.
Mabel offers a slightly classier take on retro caravanning. Dating back to the 1970s, this cream caravan with a stylish red stripe is a little larger than Lottie, providing more room for her two guests. Cream walls, a blue and cream checkerboard floor, and wood veneer combine to create a kitsch and cosy time capsule you won't forget in a hurry, while pink and red throws and rose-printed cushions make this a warm and welcoming haven, whatever the weather.
Like Lottie, Mabel offers outdoor cooking and a private deck for relaxing and dining. Positioned near the campsite's stream, she makes for lovely views over the wildflower meadow, and with an electric hook-up pitch right next door, there's no reason why you can't hire both for extra guests to pitch up. And speaking of extra guests, due to Mabel's slightly more generous proportions, you can also bring one small, well-behaved dog on your retro adventure.
Lottie and Mabel's guests have full use of The Meadows' modern toilet and shower block, with its lovely warm showers in private, wet room-style cubicles. Onsite amenities also include laundry facilities, a charging service for phones and tablets, and even a book bag where guests can swap books and enjoy exciting new holiday-reads. The small shop sells a few local essentials, from eggs courtesy of the onsite chooks to Roskilly's organic ice cream. And if you don't feel like cooking, you might be lucky enough to sample delicious local food (and cider!) from one of the food vans that visit The Meadows throughout the week.
Fill your days with the many picturesque gems on your doorstep, from the Lost Gardens of Heligan to Mevagissey's unique harbour, and don't forget the popular Eden Project, a must-see when in the area. The Pentewan Valley Trail adjoins The Meadows, meaning many local attractions are reached easily on foot or by bike (a local cycle hire firm will even deliver bicycles to and from the campsite!). There are good transport links to The Meadows, meaning you can arrive by train or bus.
Whatever you get up to, the best bit is knowing that at the end of each day, you can look forward to a good night's rest in your cosy caravan - vintage pyjamas optional!
